The Town of Kirkland Lake is clarifying comments made at the July 16, 2024 Regular Meeting of Council regarding an Open House meeting to be held on September 12, 2024 pertaining to the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program.

The Town of Kirkland Lake informs all residents that the service disruption to the water distribution system has ended.

Please be advised that site work will commence at the Sir Harry Oakes Château (2 Château Drive) starting on Monday, July 8, 2024.

TAKE NOTICE THAT Council of The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake will hold a Public Meeting in relation to the Application as per Section 34 (10.1) and 34 (10.2) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter P.13 (as amended)

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has approved eligibility for Kirkland Lake Residents, within a designated activation area for the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program, in response to the flooding that occurred on April 12, 2024.

The Town of Kirkland Lake would like to inform all residents and visitors that the passenger elevator at the Town Hall, 3 Kirkland St. W., will undergo necessary upgrades starting on Monday, June 24, 2024.

On June 18, 2024, a proposed by-law to amend The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake’s Parking By-Law No. 15-017, and subsequent amendment By-Law No. 21-033, to update Table F (1) and Schedule F to incorporate a Pedestrian Crosswalk (PXO) on the west side of the intersection of Burnside Drive and Highway 66, will be given three readings.

Please be advised that effective July 1st, 2024, the Town of Kirkland Lake rates, fees and charges for some services and programs will increase and/or have been changed.

At their special meeting on April 25, 2024, the Council of the Town of Kirkland Lake passed its 2024 Budget that includes a Tax Levy of $12,571,568 on an overall net Operating Budget of $19,979,555 and includes an increase in the Residential Tax Rate of 5.85% over last year.

The Town of Kirkland Lake is promoting its current Activity Coordinator, Kim Klockars, into the role of Director of Community Services. At its Regular Council Meeting held on April 2, 2024, Council approved the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the members of International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF) Local 573.

Following the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the Town of Kirkland Lake has embarked on a path to reevaluate its cultural landscape. On Thursday, MPP John Vanthof was at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex to hear more about the $465,000 Community Building Fund Capital Grant from the Ontario government and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded in late 2021, was used for upgrades to the arena, addressing a community need by upgrading ventilation and dehumidification units, replacing the rink’s boards and benches, and improving accessible access to the facility.

The Council for the Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake has resolved to exit The Town of Kirkland Lake Solar Inc. Partnership/Corporation and divest itself of its shares in the Solar Project on Archer Drive.

The Recreation Department of the Town of Kirkland Lake has received a small grant from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, through their Seniors Community Grant program. With these dollars, a program entitled Seniors in Motion, a concentrated 7-month effort, will offer programs and events to older adults, seniors, and multigenerational families.

Please be advised of regular hours of operation at the Kirkland Lake Landfill. This change will be effective Saturday April 1, 2023.

Residential property owners will be permitted to obtain 2 vouchers for 2022. Proof of property ownership must be presented to municipal staff in order to obtain your voucher.

There is a new by-law for regulating what type of off-road vehicles are permitted on Town streets. Now in addition to all-terrain vehicles, there can be multi-purpose off-highway utility vehicles and recreational off-highway vehicles.

The Strategic Plan for the Town of Kirkland Lake included completing a Service Delivery Review for the Museum of Northern History. This review was completed through funding received from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
