History

The Museum of Northern History originally opened in 1967,  and was housed in the former Assay Office for the Wright Hargreaves Mine. It initially housed a modest collection of photographs, historical and mining artifacts for the region, but soon outgrew its storage and display capacity. It relocated in the early 1980's, and officially opened as the Museum of Northern History at the Sir Harry Oakes Chateau on July 1st, 1983.
