PRESS RELEASE - Town of Kirkland Lake Celebrating Pride Month
Posted on 06/03/2022

For Immediate Release – Friday, June 03, 2022
Kirkland Lake, ON

The Town of Kirkland Lake honours those in our community who have fought to achieve equality and acceptance, and those who continue that effort today. Kirkland Lake is home to a vibrant and proud LGBTQ2S+ community whose countless contributions are building a more inclusive community for all.

“This Pride Month we honour the pioneers, trailblazers and all Canadians who work tirelessly to raise awareness about the rich culture and history of LGBTQ2S+ rights,” said Mayor Pat Kiely. “On behalf of Council, Staff, and our residents, we thank you for helping to build a strong, caring, safe community where each and every one of us is free to celebrate our own identity.”

Pride Month brings Kirkland Lakers together to celebrate the history, courage and diversity of Kirkland Lake’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, and Two Spirit (LGBTQ2S+). Residents are encouraged to reach out, connect to, support each other, and celebrate together.

The Town is committed to addressing the unique challenges facing LGBTQ2S+ to build a more inclusive and equitable town. The Town recognizes that LGBTQ2S+ communities comprise some of the most marginalized and vulnerable populations, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the mental/physical health and financial well-being of many, particularly trans people, as well as Black, Indigenous and racialized members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, as a result of their intersectional identities.
