Notice of Nominations – 2022 Municipal Election
(accepted May 2 to August 19)

Nomination forms may be filed with the Municipal Clerk between May 2nd and  August 18th Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Nomination Day (August 19th), nomination forms can be filed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The term of elected office will be from November 15, 2022 to November 14, 2026.

By appointment only, Nominations will be accepted by the Municipal Clerk (Returning Officer) in Kirkland Lake (3 Kirkland St. W., Kirkland Lake, ON) for the offices of:

  • Mayor (1)
  • Councillor (6)
  • Trustee (1) English Public – District School Board Ontario North East (Zone C)
  • Trustees (2) English Separate – Northeastern Catholic District School Board (Zone D)
  • Trustee (1) French Separate – Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivières (Zone C)
By appointment only, Nominations will be accepted by the Municipal Clerk (Returning Officer) of the City of Temiskaming Shores (325 Farr Dr., Haileybury, ON) for the office of:
  • Trustee (1) French Public – Conseil scolaire public due Nord-Est de l’Ontario (Zone D – covering the Town of Kirkland Lake)

Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, a person may be nominated for an office only if, as of the day the person is nominated:
  1. He or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it; and
  2. He or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.
Starting May 2nd, the Nomination and declaration forms will be available at the Clerk’s Office and on the Town’s election website.

The following must be provided at the time of filing:
  • your completed nomination form on the prescribed form (Form 1);
  • at least 25 declaration of endorsements on the prescribed form (Form 2);
  • a signed declaration of qualification by the candidate;
  • the prescribed nomination filing fee payable to the Town of Kirkland Lake in the amount of:
    • $200 office of Mayor;
    • $100 for all other offices; and
  • the candidate’s identification (driver’s licence or other government issued photo identification containing the qualifying address and signature).
Note: A person may not accept contributions or incur expenses for election purposes until that person has filed a nomination paper with the Municipal Clerk.

By appointment only, Third Party Advertisers can also begin registering with the Municipal Clerk starting May 2nd. A third party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that advertises to support or oppose a candidate.
