Council Decisions – January 24, 2023

Council received a delegation from CHAR Technologies Inc. and were provided with a status update on CHAR’s CleanTech Renewable Gas Production Facility Project in Kirkland Lake.

  • Council approved the award of a Land Use Planning Consultancy Services Contract to J.L. Richards & Associates Limited as per the Terms set out in RFP-590-12 and authorized the Mayor and Municipal Clerk to sign the Service Agreement.
  • Council received the 2022 Post-Municipal and School Board Elections Report for information. Council also recommitted any unutilized portions of the 2022 operating budget earmarked for elections to the Election Reserve. Council established a Compliance Audit Reserve Fund. Council directed that a new election sign by-law be presented and a public meeting be scheduled prior to March 31, 2023, and finally directed that a report on alternative voting methods be presented in Q1 2025.
  • Council received the 2022 Post-Election Accessibility Report.
  • Council approved the issuance of a Parade Permit to the Lion’s Club International District A-5. The Parade is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2023 beginning at 9:00 AM at Main Street and ending at Toburn Mine.
  • Council passed a by-law to provide for the annual Interim Tax Levy and to provide for the payment of taxes and to provide for penalty and interest.
  • Councillor Kiely brought Notice of a Motion to be considered at the February 7, 2023 meeting seeking Support for Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure.
  • Mayor Wight declared January 25th as ‘Bell Let’s Talk Day – Mental Health Awareness Day’; a flag raising at Town Hall took place on January 25, 2023 with representatives from NorthernTel/Bell Canada and the Cochrane-Timiskaming Canadian Mental Health Association – Kirkland Lake Site.
